Thailand is home to many fantastic islands. These green and golden refugees are perfect havens for travellers looking to escape the cares of the modern world and relax for a spell. So which islands should you check out? Here’s a quick list.

Ko Tao is probably the probably the best of Thailand’s isles. The key to this destination’s appeal is that it elegantly walks the tightrope between fun and overrun; after all paradise islands so often get taken over by hordes of tourists who swallow every last shred of peace and quiet. Ko Tao has great resorts, excellent diving and quiet elegant resorts that allow you to relax peacefully – all of this is close to fun nightclubs and bars which will let you relax in the daytime and party at night.

Another good location is Ko Phi Phi. Located in the Andaman Sea it has a beautiful climate and incredible scuba-diving (divers often see turtles). What stands out about this isle though is its natural beauty. With emerald green seas reaching from heavily lined rainforests, it is exactly how most people picture a paradisiacal island retreat.

Finally, it is worth a short visit to KoPhaNgan. If Ko Tao serenely stands between fun and quiet, KoPhaNgan plunges into the party. This island is highly developed in most areas, and is overrun by thousands upon thousands of young tourists who come for the Full Moon Parties which occur periodically. It may not be your idea of paradise, but KoPhaNgan is worth visiting if only to witness one of its spectacular parties, a departure shortly thereafter to a quieter destination is probably a good idea as well.

Cheap Bangkok flights provide great access to all three destinations – tour operators sell bus and ferry deals which will take you on overnight journeys from Bangkok to the shores of your chosen beach. Choose well on your Thai island adventures, but remember: if you don’t like one isle you can always hop on to the next.
